So here's the glory that is called the Miami-Dade Public Library System.
1. Books. And not just books at one branch you visit but ALL THE BOOKS! Seriously, you're looking to read a specific novel? Go online, place a hold on the book and they'll deliver it to your local branch for free. You'll also get a text message notifying you that the book has arrived and how many days you have to pick it up before they return it to its original branch.

2. Movies and Music. This shouldn't be new news either, Miami-Dade allows card holders to borrow movies and music. You can search for them online just like their books and have them delivered to your local branch.
Note: DVDs are a 7-day rental and you're charged $1.00 for every late day.
3. E-books Overdrive. Miami-Dade now has an app where you can borrow e-books! It's called Overdrive, and works just like the library's system. The great thing about it is when you place a hold and it's your turn to borrow the book, you get an email where you allow the book to appear on your "self" in the overdrive app on your tablet. When your book is due back, it automatically returns the book so you never have to worry about paying late fees with e-books.

4. Hoopla.I have this app but haven't actually used it yet. This is the library's free version of Audible and Netflix tied together. With the Hoopla app you're able to borrow audiobooks and watch movies/TV shows for free.

5. Free Museum Passes. With a library card, members get free passes to certain museums here in Miami. Museums that are currently participating in this promotion are Vizcaya, Deering Estates, Fruit and Spice Park, Miami's Children's Museum, PAMM, HistoryMiami, Museum of Science, and the Frost Museum. Each member can redeem a museum pass for up to 4 people (Some museums only allow 2 adults/ 2 children in the 4-person pass, other allow 4 adults to use the one pass. The ticket itself will state if there are any restrictions.) The ticket expires 7 days from when you picked it up at the library. You just hand it over where you would normally purchase tickets, and you don't need to return anything back to the library.
Note: These tickets sell out fast, each branch only has 1/2 passes for each museum at a time, and once it's "checked out" they don't have another available for 7 days. I recommend checking availability the night before and checking out the pass when the library opens.

6. Free Library Events and Workshops. While visiting your local branch to pick up the books and movies you have waiting for you, grab a flyer. Every branch always has events every month ranging from children events to senior citizen workshops. As a child I have dozens of library memories from watching a magic show to learning how to mime.
